Bill Cosby & Camille Hanks
Before he was known as America’s favorite dad, Bill Cosby was a single man, touring the country as a standup comic.
While performing in Washington D.C. in the early 1960s, he met Camille Hanks, a student at the University of Maryland.
“It was right after they integrated the college, and man, they had a great social life for Negro girls. A friend introduced me to a girl on campus, so I went to see. She was beautiful, we met and I married her,” Cosby told a reporter in January of 1965.
Three months later, Mrs. Cosby gave birth to their first child and eventually had five children. Their home life became fodder for Cosby’s standup routine as well as the TV hit, The Cosby Show.
Although they’ve weathered plenty of scandals and heartache (their son Ennis was murdered in 1997), they’ve stood by each other through thick and thin, for better or for worse.
Happy 46th Anniversary, Mr. & Mrs. Cosby!
