Rick Springfield & Barbara Porter

Today in wedding history actor & singer Rick Springfield married the lovely Barbara Porter! This dynamic duo met while he was recording the hit song ‘Working Class Dog.’ He was a struggling artist and she was the receptionist in the recording studio.

Though they dated for years it wasn’t until October 27, 1984 when they married in a very private ceremony at his family’s church in Australia.

Like any couple, they certainly have had their share of good times & bad, but Rick credits his wife for their (and his) success. He told People Magazine in 2005, “Her strength is what’s held us together through all we’ve been through. Our kids have seen that through it all, you can stay together,” he says. “You don’t have to get divorced.”

They are currently on a book signing tour for Rick’s memoir “Late, Late at Night” (which is currently at a book store near you!). Good luck to this hard working couple!! We hope you can spare a few moments from your busy schedule to celebrate 26 years of legal love!!!

Letter from the Editors: Our Favorite Things…

Dear Wedheads,

Okay, so we know it’s Monday and everyone is feeling the weight of the week ahead of them, so we wanted to share a little something sweet! Literally! If you love weddings, cakes or art you must check out her blog! http://blog.sylviaweinstock.com/

For any of you readers who don’t know, I’m not engaged or married… I’m just a wedhead (a lover of weddings and wedding paraphernalia). I’ll keep you updated on the coolest things that I see, whether it’s a fun trend or an amazingly gifted artist/ wedding vendor!

Hope you all have an awesome Monday!

XOXO,

shannon

Robert Downey Jr. & Susan Levin

Five years ago today actor Robert Downey, Jr. wed producer Susan Levin. The two met on the set of Gothika in 2002 and began a relationship secretly. Although Susan didn’t think it would last, (she was a business girl and he was a famous movie star) Robert proposed to her right before her 30th birthday.

One year later the two were married in a Jewish ceremony in Amagansett, New York at the Windy Dunes estate.

Robert has always praised his wife for helping him with his sobriety. He has been quoted as saying, “Susan said, ’Don’t do any more or I’m splitting.” Well, Robert is still sober and Susan is still one happy wife!

In June, 2010 Robert & Susan launched their production company Team Downey. They currently reside in Brentwood, California.

Laura Inglass & Almanzo Wilder

A young Laura Ingalls met homesteader Almanzo Wilder when he and his brother Royal first arrived in the Dakota Territory. Ingalls and her sisters admired his horses since they were the fastest, and because Wilder would always race them through the streets. Ingalls and Wilder had several occasions, including church and socials, that allowed them to become acquainted with one another. Yet the time in which they became closest was during the winter of 1885, at around the same time Ingalls began teaching in one-room schools in a new settlement about 12 miles from DeSmet. She realized she wouldn’t be able to see her family, so Wilder offered to take her home on Fridays, and to bring her back on Sundays. In other words, their happy courtship took place in rides on buggy and sleigh.

Once they decided to marry, they chose to keep it simple. Wilder’s sister, however, threatened to  make plans for an enormous wedding. The couple decided to rush over to Reverend Edward Brown’s home and have a small ceremony there. Wilder wore a new black dress that her mother made for her. No wedding song was played during the ceremony. Afterward, the wedding dinner took place at Ingalls’ parents’ home.

Ingalls would later write numerous books about her adventures during her childhood and her marriage to Wilder, the Little House on the Prairie books. They would receive much critical acclaim and many fans, and eventually spawn a TV show in the 1970s.

Julianne Moore & Bart Freudlich

In 1997, actress Julianne Moore was cast in the film The Myth of Fingerprints. It was that movie that introduced her to director Bart Freudlich. Within a few weeks, they began dating.

“It was casual. I don’t think either of us was thinking that we were going to have two children!” Moore told Entertainment Weekly in 2002.

Their children–son, Cal, and daughter, Liv –were both involved in the ceremony in the back yard of their Greenwich Village home. It was an intimate ceremony with just 36 guests in attendance.

Seven years later, the couple are still happily married. Cheers!
