Grace’s Tip of the Day: Receiving Graciously

By Social Grace

Accept gifts graciously. It’s always the thought that counts!

Even if  you just received the most horrendous gift in the world, you must not degrade the gift giver by making any petty comments or disapproving looks.

A lot of times people see something they love and assume that the person receiving it will love it just as much as they do. They won’t understand you not enjoying their gift and they will only have hurt feelings.

A simple thank you will always do.

(BTW: even gifts you didn’t want still get thank you notes! No pouting allowed!)

Grace’s Tip of the Day: Be kind, stay behind.

No tailgating!

For your safety, and for the sanity of the other drivers on the road, be sure to keep a safe distance between yourself and the cars in front of you. The rule of the matter is… if you are driving 65 mph, about 6-7 cars should be able to theoretically fit in between your car and the other person’s car, (one car’s length for every 10mph you are driving) This gives you time to break in case of emergency. And remember, this isn’t just a safety tip, this is common courtesy!

By Social Grace

To gift or not to gift….that is the question. Read below to find out more information on Engagement Parties and get a sneak peek into our Quick Guide to Gifting!

The Engagement Party: Designed for the Bride’s family to host, this soiree was generally where the Engagement was announced. Because of the spontaneity involved gifts were not given. Now days people can celebrate their Engagement in a multitude of different ways; anything from a BBQ to an elegant cocktail hour will do, all depending on the couple being celebrated.

Gifting Verdict: Unless you want to bring a bottle of wine or champagne to the host, no gift is required. (unless stated in some sort of invitation)

Grace’s Tip of the Day: Wedding Slang Edition

By Social Grace

“Word” of the day: WP

Meaning: Wedding Party or… Wedding Planner

This might be confusing because it is used all over wedding message boards and despite their very different meanings, the shortcut WP can be used for either one. So read those message boards wisely or suddenly you might be ordering a bouquet for your favorite Event Coordinator!

“Word” of the day: STD
Meaning: Save the Dates

This very commonly used acronym was  included  in our Wedding Slang Week for obvious reasons. STD in reference to a wedding (almost & hopefully) always means your Save the Date cards. So … no reason to be embarrassed while reading those wedding message boards!!!

“Word” of the day: FMIL
Meaning: future Mother-in-Law

With an increase in wedding blogs & forums, we see an overwhelming amount of acronyms for wedding terms that before had no reason to be shortened.

So whether you are the newly engaged bride or the FMIL, you might want to brush up on your wedding slang before hitting the boutiques with your posse.

For your information, you may also see the following: FFIL (future Father-in-Law), FSIL (future Sister-in-Law), or FSIL (future Brother-in-Law).

Grace’s Tip of the Day: Visiting a New Home

When visiting a new home remember two important rules: use coasters and don’t put shoes on any upholstery.

These two very simple rules are often overlooked but must never be forgotten! First, use coasters, it doesn’t matter if it’s an antique or if it’s IKEA,  it doesn’t belong to you, so show some respect!

Second, if it has a sole don’t put it on fabric! It might be okay to put your shoes on your own furniture but at someone’s home, avoid being the cause of the mess!

Ladies don’t talk about your sex life in public. That’s why sleepovers were created! In this case, Modesty is the best Policy.

Okay, so we understand…you are with your girl friends and you want to talk. Just remember, think before you speak. At a small restaurant…not the best idea. Think twice before talking about your toys and method of birth control. Your girl friends won’t mind hearing it but think about the people at the next table. And don’t think talking on your cell is keeping it discreet: we can hear you!

Grace’s Tip of the Day: Dress to Impress

By Social Grace

Never leave your house in Sleep Wear. Remember ladies, Lounge Wear and Exercise Pants are exceptable… don’t push it.

Okay, so we understand the wonderful feeling of pajamas on at all hours of the day…we are Editors of an Internet Magazine, are we not? Who blogs in their power suits? When we talk about going out, we don’t mean going all out! Jeans and a tee are much classier than slippers and plaid flannel. We are all about dressing comfortable, but remember: if the outfit makes you yawn, put it back in your dresser.
