Billy Graham & Ruth Bell

In 1940 two Wheaton College students were introduced by a friend and began a courtship that would last 67 years. The two students were Ruth Bell and now famous Evangelical Billy Graham. Though some say it didn’t get serious until Ruth told Billy she loved him, Billy has been quoted as saying, “I saw her walking down the road towards me and I couldn’t help but stare at her as she walked. She looked at me and our eyes met and I felt that she was definitely the woman I wanted to marry.” He proposed in June of 1941.

On August 13, 1943 the two were married in Montreat, North Carolina and lived there in a log home that Ruth designed. Billy became the spiritual advisor to presidents and  and his growing popularity made him create the “Billy Graham Rule” which meant that he would never let himself be alone with a woman other than his wife.

They went on to have five children, nine grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

Ruth passed away in 2007 and it has been said that Billy Graham now has a deeper understanding to those he counsels on grief. Billy and Ruth were best friends, lovers and partners and today we honor their love.

Fats Domino & Rosemary Hall

Fats Domino is known as a pioneer of R&B and Rock’n'Roll, with countless hits, including, “I’m Walkin’” and “Blueberry Hill.” But before the fame, he was just a kid named Antoine, growing up in New Orleans.

In the summer of 1947, the 19-year-old piano player was introduced to a neighboring family who had an upright piano. He immediately sat down to play and upon finishing the woman of the household, Rita LaPage Hall burst into applause. She wasn’t the only woman in the household who was a fan of his. Rita’s 17-year-old daughter Rosemary took to the young man, as he did her.

Domino courted the beautiful, shy girl and finally invited her to see him play a gig. According to his biography Blue Monday: Fats Domino and the Lost Dawn of Rock’n'Roll, Miss Hall wore her Sunday best to the club and coughed on the club’s cigarette smoke.

Before the summer was over, the two were exchanging vows in her family’s house. She wore a long, white gown with puffy sleeves and a ring borrowed from her sister. Their first “home” was a room in her parents’ house.

Interestingly, Domino’s mother-in-law also adored him and was very supportive of his career. According to Blue Monday, “She was crazy about me and I was crazy about her,” Domino said.

Over the years, Domino wrote several songs for his wife, but he said “We never did talk too much about music.”

In fact, the show that she went to shortly before they were married was the last time she ever saw him perform. They were determined to keep his business life and their relationship separate.

After 63 years of marriage, the Dominos raised eight chilren and still make their home in New Orleans. That’s a Rock’n'Roll marriage made in heaven.

Faith Evans & Christopher Wallace (The Notorious B.I.G.)

When 21-year-old singer Faith Evans showed up at a photo shoot for Bad Boy Records in the summer of 1994, she probably had know idea that she’d meet a rapper named Christopher Wallace, and that within three weeks, the two would be married.

Turbulent would be a nice way to describe their marriage. Notorious wasn’t just Wallace’s rapper name. It’s been widely publicized that Biggy had affairs with several women, including singers and groupies.

In her autobiography, Keep the Faith, Evans even recalls finding fellow rapper Lil Kim in bed with her husband.

In 1996, some  good news came to the young couple when Evans gave birth to a son, Christopher. Unfortunately, their happiness would not last long. They separated in the beginning of 1997 and  a few months later, Notorious B.I.G. was murdered. He was 24 years old.

Evans helped keep the memory of her late husband alive by recording several tribute songs. In 1998, she married a record executive, with whom she has two children and continues to record albums.

Patrick Dempsey & Jillian Fink

Eleven years ago today, actor Patrick Dempsey married makeup artist, Jillian Fink.

The actor, who shot to fame as a teen star in such films as Can’t Buy Me Love and Loverboy, met his wife during a dry spell in his career. Although, he’s now revered as McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy, Dempsey spent several years in acting limbo.

During the time in which he struggled just to get auditions, Dempsey met Fink, who is the founder of Delux Beauty Cosmetics. According to Britain’s Cosmopolitan Magazine, Dempsey knew Fink was special from their very first meeting.

“I knew as soon as I saw her. She’s beautiful but, more importantly, we had a connection,” he told the magazine.

The couple have three children together — a daughter born in 2000 and twin sons born in 2007.

Dempsey, who has been married once before, is the first to admit that marriage isn’t easy.

“I am romantic but I think it takes more than just flowers. Marriage is great and blissful, but it takes work and understanding. You have to make time to spend together and to work through your issues. The more we grown and learn, both as individuals and as a couple, the closer we get.” Dempsey told a reporter last year.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. We hope that their marriage continues to be a Mcdream come true!

Nicolas Cage & Alice Kim

Today marks six years since Nicolas Cage married his third wife, Alice Kim. The two tied the knot at a Northern California ranch only six months after they first met.

Kim caught Cage’s eye in February at the Los Angeles restaurant Le Privé, where she was a waitress. Two months later, they were engaged.

A year later, Kim gave birth to their son, Kal-El Coppola Cage. Kal-El is the birth name of Superman, a figure that Cage supposedly has an obsession with (he was even attached to star as Superman in a film at one time).

Despite their 20-year age difference and Cage’s previous failed marriages (to Patricia Arquette and Lisa Marie Presley), the couple are still going strong. Perhaps producer Jerry Bruckheimer summed up their relationship best.

“He loves her and that’s really nice to see. She makes him very happy,” Bruckheimer told People Magazine in 2005.

The couple celebrated their sixth anniversary last night, dining with their son at Botafumeiro, a restaurant in Barcelona (pictures can be seen here).
