Romantic Holiday Wedding Inspiration!

By Shannon Ayers

I love Christmas!!! In fact, one of the only things I love more than Christmas is Weddings’! Despite my love for these two things, when it comes to a Winter themed wedding I somehow feel like I’ve seen it all.

Today I wanted to play with this common theme and showcase some unique ideas for a Christmas wedding! I call it ‘Romantic Elegance’.

I envision a wedding such as this in a beautiful hotel ballroom on the Upper East Side, but a savvy bride could throw a romantic and elegant soiree just about anywhere. My inspiration board features a stunning (and I mean STUNNING!) gown from Ivy & Aster, some beautiful jewel studded flowers from Blossom & Branch (check out their blog on Design Sponge Online) and a sleek & affordable bridesmaid dress from 57 Grand. The art piece masquerading as a cake is from Martha Stewart Weddings and it is the image that inspired this whole post!

Happy almost Christmas & Happy Planning! xoxo, shannon

A Thanksgiving Inspired Wedding!

By Shannon Ayers

Some may think that Thanksgiving is nothing more than turkey & football, but for me, it’s one of my favorite days of the year! I might not have my entire family sitting around my dinner table every year but just reflecting on them and all that I’m thankful for makes my day special.

It’s because of all of the love that gets passed around that I think a Thanksgiving inspired wedding is a beautiful option for those not wanting the more popular ‘Winter Wedding’. The choices are endless but I’ve compiled images from some of my favorite vendors to showcase how one might create such a day!

The gorgeous dress from BHLDN evokes memories of a vintage lace table cloth. Feathers can be adorned to a brooch bouquet like this one from ETSY’s shop Baubles & Brides or even can be worn in your hair (Petit Plume is one of my new favorite shops!). Given the often drab exterior this time of year, your color choices can be bold. JCrew’s Spiced Wine color is so luxurious and warm it reminds me of homemade cranberry sauce! If you do choose to have a Thanksgiving inspired wedding you mustn’t overlook your food displays & table settings. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a mismatched setting of romantic plates and this compilation from Martha Stewart Wedding’s is no exception!

Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Planning!!! xoxo, shannon

The Honorable Maid of Honor…

By Shannon Ayers

Okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve blogged but I promise you, I’ve been busy… really busy! Not only have I been working like mad but I have also been asked to be one of my best friend’s Maid of Honor!

As a first time MOH I can’t really be too much of a know it all but I’ve picked up some ‘do’s & don’ts’ over the last few months and I wanted to share.

1. Keep calm & carry on. Your most important job as MOH is to keep your Bride happy & excited about her impending big day. Don’t start or add to any drama!

2. Your Bride is busy, chances are she might not have time for all of your usual girl nights. Don’t complain about her busy schedule as she preps for the wedding but DO offer to help her out with anything you can!

3. Don’t talk to much about your own stuff. Have wedding plans of your own? Terrible day at work? Family drama? No matter what is on your mind be sensitive that your Best Bride Forever is having a huge life change and deserves her moment (or several moments) in the spot light. :)

Have your own MOH survival tips? Have an awesome story about being a Maid of Honor or Bridesmaid? Feel free to send a comment or Facebook us because we’d love to hear them!

Christina Hendricks & Geoffrey Arend

Christina & Geoffrey's First Dance

Mad Men beauty Christina Hendricks met actor Geoffrey Arend through a mutual friend in 2006. In Style Magazine reported that after Christina fell in love with the vintage chandeliers at their fave restaurant Il Buco’s in New York City, Geoffrey convinced the owner to sell him one! He hung the piece in their dining room and proposed right underneath it!

The two married on October 11, 2009 in NYC (their reception was at Il Buco’s!) with 70 of their closet friends and family in attendance. The wedding party wore vintage dress with flowers designed by Saipua.

Congratulations Christina & Geoffrey!

Brooklyn Decker & Andy Roddick

A year ago today,  tennis player Andy Roddick and supermodel Brooklyn Decker tied the knot.

They didn’t meet in the traditional sense. Roddick was so intrigued with Decker’s swimsuit pictures in Sports Illustrated that he asked his agent to look for some sort of phone number to get in contact with her. This was back in 2007, and they have been inseparable ever since.

The couple married at Roddick’s home in Austin, Texas at twilight in a small candlelit ceremony before friends and family. Guests included tennis greats Billie Jean King, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, as well as Sir Elton John who provided a musical performance.

Though it had rained all day, it’s fairly certain the gloomy weather didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone at the wedding. In fact, spirits were so high that the festivities continued onto the next day. The couple, along with 250 guests, continued to celebrate their union at a restaurant in downtown Austin called Stubb’s Bar-B-Que with plenty of food and music.

Here’s to a wonderful anniversary to the happy couple!

Sofia Bush & Chad Michael Murray

Today in wedding history actress Sofia Bush married her One Tree Hill co-star Chad Michael Murray.

They dated for two years before tying the knot in Santa Monica, California. Though the newlyweds appeared to be in marital bliss, Sofia filed divorce papers just five months later.

Their marriage may have been one for the tabloids, but we wish both Sofia & Chad the best of luck in their current romantic endeavors.

Zsa Zsa Gabor & Felipe De Alba

Although Hungarian actress and socialite, Zsa Zsa Gabor, married her beau, Mexican attorney/actor Felipe De Alba, on April 13, 1983, today is a significant day in wedding history because it was one day later that their marriage ended.

Even though she hasn’t had a ton of luck in marriage, this woman is certainly a fan of it considering she’s been married nine times.

“To be loved is a strength, to love is a weakness,” Gabor famously said. With an attitude like that, it’s no wonder that so many of her marriages didn’t last.

This particular union was interesting because when she tied the knot with De Alba near Puerta Vallerta, Mexico, she was not yet divorced from her previous husband. That’s why 28 years ago today the union was considered invalid.

Let this be a lesson to your second-timers to make sure to go through the proper legal channels to end your first marriage before you walk down that aisle again.

Hector Elizondo & Carolee Campbell

A big congrats to Hector Elizondo & Carolee Campbell as they celebrate their 42st wedding anniversary.

This is one very interesting couple. They’re both accomplished stage and screen actors with impressive awards, but check out their other talents and achievements!

Elizondo is a musician, singer, dancer and an athlete. (That’s right. Playing baseball in high school, he was even scouted by the New York (now San Francisco) Giants & Pittsburgh Pirates.) Campbell is an accomplished photographer and celebrated illustrator and publisher who in 1984 founded Ninja Press, which creates and makes books by hand.

Individually, they’ve got it; but together, Elizondo & Campbell make one dynamic duo!

Letter from the Editors: Our Favorite Things…

By Shannon Ayers

Dear Wedheads,

Okay, so we know it’s Monday and everyone is feeling the weight of the week ahead of them, so we wanted to share a little something sweet! Literally! Our favorite thing this week is cake diva Sylvia Weinstock and we can’t get enough of her blog and amazing work! For anyone who doesn’t know Syliva’s background, she is to cakes what Harry Winston was to diamonds, what Vera Wang is to the bridal gown… she is simply a true artist. If you love weddings, cakes or art you must check out her blog! http://blog.sylviaweinstock.com/

For any of you readers who don’t know, I’m not engaged or married… I’m just a wedhead (a lover of weddings and wedding paraphernalia). I’ll keep you updated on the coolest things that I see, whether it’s a fun trend or an amazingly gifted artist/ wedding vendor!

Hope you all have an awesome Monday!

XOXO,

shannon
