Stephen  & Kennya Baldwin

Actor & activist Stephen Baldwin may have been a bad boy when he was young but that didn’t stop him from seeing good when it was standing right in front of him!  Stephen met Brazilian graphic designer, Kennya Deodato on a NYC subway in 1987. After the famous Baldwin met the Brazilian Beauty he made this bold statement, “I just met the girl I’m going to marry and she’s gonna have our kids!”

The two lovebirds married three years later. Since their union they have had two daughters, and in 2001 they formed (along with friends) Breakthrough Ministry. Kennya has been a constant source of strength to Stephen through his time in rehab and the ups and downs of a career in the entertainment industry. Most recently the news has focused on the couple’s financial difficulties, but what married couple hasn’t had their share of those!

Congratulations Kennya & Stephen! God Bless!

Judd Apatow & Leslie Mann

In 1996, Judd Apatow directed the film The Cable Guy starring Jim Carrey. Although the movie was a box office disappointment, at least one great thing came out of it. Apatow met actress, Leslie Mann.

A year later, the couple were married and they wasted no time in starting a family. Just one month after their wedding, they announced that they were expecting their first child.

The couple now have two daughters named Iris and Maude. The girls have been featured in two of Apatow’s films (Knocked Up and Funny People). In both movies, they portray the daughters of Mann’s character.

Many often say the key to a great marriage is a sense of humor. This is one couple that agrees with that. In an interview last year, Mann said that she loves how Apatow makes her laugh. But she also revealed that another important factor in their marriage involves back rubs.

“He rubs my back every single night before bed. Seriously, every single night! I’ve trained him so that he can’t fall asleep unless he’s rubbing me,” Mann told a reporter.

Sounds like this couple has definitely found the secret to making a marriage work!

Happy Anniversary!

Bruce Springsteen & Patti Scialfa

It was a big day in the music world. The Boss married the Jersie Girl.  That’s right. We’re talking Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa.

These two amazing New Jersey Shore performers were both pursuing big music careers in 1984 when Patti joined the E Street Band as a backup singer just days before the “Born in America” tour began.  Though the band mates made great sounds together, Patti and Bruce didn’t appear to be more than friends until the 1988 Tunnel of Love Express tour when their steamy stage performances set tongues wagging.

Over the last 19 years, Patti and Bruce have continued to make music together and individually, while raising their three children.

So, turn up your Jersey jams and let your hair hang free as we wish the Springsteen-Scialfa marriage the very best today and for all the years to come.  Rock on!

Ron & Cheryl Howard

High school sweethearts marry, have four children and live happily ever after. Sounds like a fairytale. But for Ron and Cheryl Howard, this tale is real.

Thirty-five years ago today, Ron Howard married Cheryl Alley, the girl he fell in love with while a junior at a Burbank public high school. Though Ron was already a well-known television and film star when he met Cheryl, she was not interested in his childhood fame.  She was interested in him.

They were both just 21 when they married in front of 300 guests at Magnolia Park United Methodist Church in Burbank. Cheryl wore a white lace wedding dress and Ron wore a powder-blue tuxedo.  More than 300 guests attended including ushers, Don Most, Anson Williams and Tom Bosley.

Ron proclaims that Cheryl is the greatest love of his life.  On that sweet note, we tip our hats to Mr. and Mrs. Ron Howard.  Happy Anniversary!

David Bowie & Iman

Eighteen years ago today, music superstar David Bowie married gorgeous supermodel, Iman in Florence, Italy. Their wedding came less than two years after meeting on a blind date/ dinner party that their mutual hairdresser had set them up  on in Los Angeles. It was love at first site and the couple soon moved in together.

In 1992, Bowie proposed to Iman while they cruised on a boat along the River Seine in Paris, France. Months later, they were married at the St. James Church in Italy in front of 65 guests that included Yoko Ono and U2 frontman, Bono.

Over the years, Bowie and Iman have kept their love going in an industry that is so trying on relationships. This is in part because of their appreciation for each other’s unique personalities.

“[She] has a great sense of self. I mean that she’s her own person and not swayed by other’s opinions,” Bowie told a reporter when asked what he loves about his wife.

Iman perfectly summed up her feelings in an interview just one day after their wedding:

“This relationship with David is taking me totally by surprise, a wonderful surprise. I have found my soulmate in him, my friend. In him I have found my lover, my companion. The person I was looking for – my other half. I hope everyone in this world finds their other half as I did mine.”

Well said!

Jeff Bridges & Susan Geston

He was an established actor from a famous Hollywood family making a film in Montana.   She was a local girl working her way through college by doing odd jobs at a dude ranch.

But when Jeff Bridges saw Susan Geston it was love at first sight.  Yes, Sue was a natural beauty, but at the time of this first sighting, she had two black eyes and broken nose, the result of a recent car accident. So Jeff’s attraction to Sue was more than skin deep.

He asked her out. She turned him down. But later when Jeff saw Sue again at the film’s wrap party, he asked her to dance.  This time she accepted.

But marriage didn’t follow love that quickly.  Though Sue had moved to California, Jeff was reluctant to commit so, when she got a job offer back in Montana, Jeff’s mother advised Sue (whom she adored) to take the offer. “Don’t stay with him.”  This was the slap of reality Jeff needed.

He is quoted as saying, “Finally I came to my senses. If I let this girl go, I will always know she was the one. So I got down on my knees and asked Sue to marry me.”  Five days later, June 5, 1977, they tied the knot in their backyard.

Now, thirty-three years and three daughters later, Jeff and Sue Bridges have one of the most respected marriages on record.  Congrats to Jeff and Susan Bridges — a totally cool couple!

Billy & Janice Crystal

Love and family are what Billy and Janice are all about. They support each other and have both been hands-on in raising their two daughters, Jennifer and Lindsay. According to Billy, one of his saddest days was when his daughter, Jennifer, told him, “Dad, I can wash my hair myself.”

So today on your 40th Anniversary, we raise our finest crystal glasses to you, Billy and Janice. “You look maahr-ve-lous!”

Tina Fey & Jeff Richmond

On June 3, 2001, Tina Fey, the star and creator of 30 Rock, married her long-time boyfriend, composer/musician Jeff Richmond. The couple tied the knot in a Greek Orthodox ceremony in her hometown of Philadelphia.

Their romance started seven years earlier when they met while working at the Second City in Chicago. After they were both hired at Saturday Night Live (Fey as a writer and Richmond as a composer), their relationship continued to grow.

During the summer of 2000, while on vacation at Lake Michigan, Richmond proposed to Fey on bended knee. He later told PEOPLE Magazine, “If I’d known so many people would ask me how I proposed, I would have done it in some more theatrical way.”

In 2005, Fey got pregnant and gave birth to a girl, who they named Alice. A year later, both Fey and Richmond left SNL to work on her new show 30 Rock. Although it can be hard on a marriage when the couple works together, the two seem to effortlessly make it work.

“I think that we complement each other nicely because we’re not in the same room all day. There’ll be whole days we’ll be at work and not see each other until the ride home. And we’ve been working at the same place for a long time,” Fey told Readers Digest.

We at PROPOSAL hope the couple at least take today off from their busy lives to celebrate! Cheers!

Grover Cleveland & Frances Folsom

Grover Cleveland’s wedding to Frances Folsom on June 2, 1886 was unique in a few ways. For one, their wedding was held within the White House in the Blue Room, which makes the couple the first and only one to be wed within the mansion. Secondly, Cleveland was already President at the time of the ceremony, so this made it only the second wedding of a sitting president (John Tyler’s to wife Julia in 1844 being the first). Lastly, their age difference of 27 years was the second largest of any Presidential couple (Cleveland was 49, and Folsom was 21).

The ceremony was small, and performed by Reverend Byron Sutherland, and assisted by Cleveland’s brother, Reverend William Cleveland. Only family, close friends, and cabinet members and their wives were allowed to attend. Though journalists were excluded, it didn’t stop them from writing about it or of the honeymoon preparations. John Phillip Sousa and the Marine Band provided the music.

Afterward, the couple spent their honeymoon at Deer Park in the Cumberland Mountains in Western Maryland.

Karen Elson & Jack White

By Annie Leibovitz/ Vogue

Jack White is a true artist. He may have gotten famous as frontman for The White Stripes, but he also formed The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather and he is a producer & actor! And like any artist he is attracted to beauty, it’s no wonder then that he fell in love with the talented Supermodel Karen Elson!

They met when Karen acted in The White Stripe’s music video for “Blue Orchid”. The two hit it off, even prompting the video’s Director, Floria Sigismondi to say, “you sensed an energy between them.”

The two married in 2005 while on vacation in Manaous, Brazil. Their nuptials took place on a canoe in the center of three rivers: the Rio Negro, the Solimones & the Amazon. Meg White was maid of honor & White Stripes manager Ian Montone stepped up as Best Man.

This talented couple currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee with their children.

Congratulations Karen & Jack!
