Andrew Carnegie & Louise Whitfield

The Carnegies
Today in wedding history Andrew Carnegie married his sweetheart Louise Whitfield.
They met in 1870 when Louise was just 21 years old however they did not begin to date seriously until 10 years later.
They married in New York City at a Louise’s family’s home in a private ceremony. The bride was 30 and Andrew was 51. This wealthy groom gave his new bride an interesting wedding gift: an annual income of 20,000 and a home in New York City.
The two went on to have one child, Margaret in 1897.
Throughout their life they gave to charities and when Andrew passed away in 1919 it is reported that he had given away 90% of all of his money.
