Edward G. Robinson & Jane Adler
May-December romances have been part of Hollywood’s culture since its golden era.
In 1958, 64-year-old actor, Edward G. Robinson, known for playing tough guys and gangsters, wed New York dress designer, Jane Adler, who was 38 at the time.
Even in the days before TMZ and The National Enquirer, Robinson and his bride were fodder for gossip, not only because of their age difference but because they fell in love while he was still married to his first wife.
They overcame the drama surrounding their nuptuals and remained together for the rest of Robinson’s life .
In 1971, he was told he’d be presented an honorary Oscar but died two months before the ceremony. His wife accepted the award on his behalf and read the acceptance speech he had written for the occasion.
